Concert Details
Nearly 60 years after he moved to the United States from his hometown of Kingston, Jamaica, Grammy-nominated pianist Monty Alexander is an American classic. He tours the world relentlessly with various projects, delighting audiences with his vibrant personality and soulful message. He is a perennial favorite at jazz festivals and venues worldwide thanks to his classic melodies and effervescent grooves. His repertoire spans a broad range of jazz and Jamaican musical expressions—the American Songbook and the blues, gospel and bebop, calypso and reggae.
Alexander’s latest release, 2024’s D-Day, commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landing with a selection of wartime standards mixed in with original compositions.
“His work is in a sense a history of jazz piano . . . and yet, he distills all these influences into his own style.”
