Concert Details
National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters and Grammy winners Branford Marsalis and Dianne Reeves celebrate the 100th birthday of John Coltrane with a new album and a world tour. Reeves joins the stunningly versatile Branford Marsalis Quartet to pay tribute to the seminal collaboration between Coltrane and singer Johnny Hartman and more beloved ballads from Coltrane’s repertoire.
Branford Marsalis is an instrumentalist, composer, bandleader, and educator who crosses stylistic boundaries while maintaining an unwavering creative integrity. He has become an avatar of contemporary artistic excellence, having received three Grammy Awards and a Tony nomination, as well as a 2021 Primetime Emmy nomination for the score for the documentary Tulsa Burning.
Dianne Reeves can effortlessly sing in whatever style she wants with her far-reaching range, whether it is rhythm and blues, gospel, Latin music, or pop. But jazz continues to be her musical foundation. She has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as well as the Berlin Philharmonic, and she has also recorded and performed as the featured soloist with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
Branford Marsalis:
“He’s far from satisfied in his quest for excellence on his horns and with his composer’s pen.”
JazzTimes
Dianne Reeves:
“Not only does she nail all the things that define great jazz singers, but she also expands the idea of what a jazz vocalist is.”
