General MIM Policies
Guests visiting MIM enjoy a unique collection of instruments from around the world. Help us keep these instruments safe so that our children, grandchildren, and their grandchildren can enjoy them for many years to come.
To ensure the safety of our guests and the collection, MIM has established the following policies:
- Food and beverages, including water, are not permitted outside of Café Allegro, Beats® Coffee Bar, or the PNC Bank Family Center. Outside food or drink is not allowed inside the museum.
- The following items must be checked at Guest Service:
- Backpacks, purses, and bags worn on the back
- Bags larger than 18 inches by 18 inches
- Non-stroller baby carriers, including wagons
- Umbrellas
- Tripods and selfie sticks
- Personal musical instruments
- Flowers and live plants
- Any other similar items
- Instruments and objects on display may not be touched, except in the Experience Gallery and Encore Gallery on the first floor. Guests should keep a distance of at least six inches from all exhibit barriers.
- Photography is permitted for personal use in the galleries unless otherwise indicated, but flash photography is not allowed.
- Guests may carry babies and infants only using a sling or a carrier worn on the front of the body.
- Complimentary wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, and baby strollers are available on a first-come, first-served basis at Guest Service and must be returned before exiting the building.
- MIM reserves the right to inspect all items carried into or out of the museum.
- Weapons (e.g., handguns, pepper spray, knives, etc.) are not permitted on the premises.
- Children under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times during their visit.
- Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas and is not allowed within 20 feet of the front entrance. E-cigarettes are not permitted inside the museum and may only be used in designated outdoor smoking areas.
- For the courtesy of the other guests, please silence cell phones when in the galleries.

MIM Music Theater Policies
- Audio and video recording in the theater are prohibited unless guests are notified otherwise. Photography is at the discretion of the performers but is often permitted if the flash is turned off.
- Texting and web browsing are prohibited during performances.
- Outside food or drink is not allowed inside the building. Food or beverages will not be allowed inside the theater except for bottled water purchased from the bar.
- Backpacks are not permitted inside MIM Music Theater.
- Flowers, instruments, luggage, gifts for the artist, etc., are not allowed inside the venue. Please leave items that cannot be taken into the theater with Guest Service’s complimentary coat check.
- Trained service animals are welcome. For safety, they must remain with their handler and fit comfortably by their seat without obstructing walkways.
- Weapons (e.g., handguns, pepper spray, knives, etc.) are not permitted on the premises.
- All guests must have their own ticket to enter the theater. Children 3 and under do not require their own ticket and may be in one shared seat with an adult for the duration of the show. Guests must be able to sit quietly throughout the performance.
- All seats must be accessed through the entrance indicated on your ticket (e.g., door A or door B). Elevators are for rear box access only.
- Late seating will take place at the discretion of the house manager.
- Dancing is permitted in the portal areas and in front of your seat. Walkways must be kept clear at all times, including the stairs and in front of the exits.
- The MIM Music Theater has a limited number of accessible and companion seats throughout the venue. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be requested when purchasing tickets.
- MIM does not offer refunds or exchanges. All sales are final. If you are unable to attend a concert, you can donate your tickets by submitting this form. Donations must be made before the start of the performance.
- MIM does not sell tickets through any third-party ticket merchants. Tickets purchased through unauthorized ticket merchants may be priced significantly above face value, counterfeit, stolen, or otherwise in violation of MIM’s policies. We encourage all guests to purchase tickets directly from MIM.org, in person at Guest Service, or by phone at 480.478.6000. MIM is not responsible for any tickets purchased from unauthorized ticket merchants and cannot assist with inquiries regarding unauthorized ticket purchases.
