What are group tours like at MIM?

Guided tours are about an hour long and give an overview of the world’s music, focusing on specific cultures in each geographical region of the globe.

What sizes and types of groups can visit?

Tours are available for groups of all sizes. Groups could be friends, alumni, clubs, reunions, special events, conference delegates, seniors, people with disabilities, college and technical school students, employees on team-building trips, or family gatherings.

How much do group tours cost?

Guided tours are free with admission. General admission is $20 for adults, $15 for teens (ages 13–19), and $10 for children (ages 4–12). Children 3 and under receive free admission. Rates for tourism professionals and colleges are applied at time of booking.

When can my group take a guided tour?

Tours are available year-round, seven days a week. Let us know your preferred tour time when you book your tour.

How do I book a tour?

To book a group tour, please fill out the Adult Group Tour Request Form. MIM’s tour coordinator will follow up with you to finalize a date and time.

How do I pay?

Full payment for your group tour is due upon arrival by credit card, cash, or check made out to the Musical Instrument Museum.

Is there parking?

There is ample free parking at MIM. Tour bus parking is available on the north side of the museum. MIM is motor coach–friendly, with convenient drop-off and pickup points in front of the museum.

What happens when we arrive at MIM?

Enter through the main entrance and have your group leader check in at Guest Service. Your tour guide will then meet you, and you’ll start your tour!

Does MIM meet ADA accessibility requirements?

MIM meets all Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility requirements. Please notify us at least two weeks before your tour if you have any special needs requests.

How will my group hear the audio portion of the exhibits?

All guests receive a guidePORT and a headset with admission, which let them experience the audio and video recordings that accompany nearly every exhibit.

Can my group take a self-guided tour?

Yes! We encourage you to make a reservation for your group to expedite the check-in process. We will provide a brief orientation, then your group can explore the galleries on your own. An average visit lasts three hours.

Can my group be admitted into the special exhibition?

Yes! Special exhibition tickets are sold separately. Please indicate your interest on the Group Tour Request Form.

Can my group watch a performance at the MIM Music Theater?

Absolutely! The MIM Music Theater frequently hosts a variety of performances. Click here to view a full schedule of upcoming concerts. Concert tickets are sold separately.

What happens if I need to cancel my group tour?

If you need to cancel your tour, please email adulttours@MIM.org or call 480.478.6031. All changes or cancellations must be made before the tour date.

Please submit another request if you are interested in rescheduling your visit. MIM reserves the right to cancel or reschedule your group at any time.

Can we bring food, backpacks, cameras, etc.?

Large bags and backpacks are not allowed in the galleries. Please leave them in your vehicle or check them at Guest Service. Food and drink and water bottles are not allowed in the galleries, either. You may bring your camera, but please take pictures without using the flash.
