Magnificent mariachi band . . . a power and passion that I’d never seen before. It was amazing.

Grammy-winning ensemble Mariachi Los Camperos is among the most important groups in the modern mariachi tradition. The group was founded in 1961 by Jose Natividad “Nati” Cano Ruiz, who helped popularize mariachi music in the United States. He presented Los Camperos at theaters, opera houses, and concert halls where mariachis had never previously performed, including Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Lincoln Theater in Washington, DC.
Over its 63-year history, Mariachi Los Camperos have recorded and performed with Latin American superstars such as Pedro Fernández, Pepe Aguilar, Angeles Ochoa, Eugenia León, Lila Downs, Alejandro Fernández, and Luis Miguel. They collaborated with Linda Ronstadt on the singer’s Canciones de Mi Padre album and toured with her nationwide in support of the follow-up, Mas Canciones.
Jesús “Chuy” Gúzman has served as Los Camperos’ musical director since 1992. Their new album, Sones de Mariachi, is mix of popular and lesser-known son songs rooted in the western Mexican heartland of mariachi tradition.
