Both in Sun City Girls and solo, Mr. Bishop . . . has riffled through and across idioms, sometimes invoking a single style and sometimes making a clearly sourced hybrid.
—New York Times
One of the most riveting and dynamic acoustic guitarists on the planet, but he’s seldom seemed interested in the tropes of the solo guitar tradition.
—Pitchfork
Global sound explorer whose unique blend of ethno-folk, raga droning, and gypsy-inspired picking has placed him at the vanguard of guitar experimentation.
—AllMusic
Richard Bishop, a founding member of the avant-everything band Sun City Girls, is an experimental solo guitarist whose work often incorporates the sounds of India, the Middle East, and North Africa. He released his first solo record, Salvador Kali, under the moniker Sir Richard Bishop in 1998 on noted guitarist John Fahey’s esteemed Revenant label. Since then, Bishop has continued to develop his own guitar language, releasing a number of albums on a variety of independent labels specializing in experimental music.
