In 1994, New York City folk musician Christine Lavin gathered a host of contemporary folk songwriters to showcase the music of the winter season on the compilation On a Winter’s Night. Several years of touring and collaboration followed. This reunion tour gathers four of the original songwriters to once again celebrate the winter season.
Cliff Eberhardt is a highly intelligent and articulate folk and blues musician whose penetrating and profound lyrics are sometimes overshadowed by his extraordinary guitar playing. Like John Hammond and Richie Havens, Eberhardt carries the torch for traditional and contemporary folk music through his compelling, thoughtful, and emotional live shows.
John Gorka is perhaps the quintessential singer-songwriter of the ’90s folk scene. Originally from New Jersey, Gorka was a mainstay of the Greenwich Village Fast Folk scene. After winning the prestigious New Folk award at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1984, Gorka signed to Red House Records, which released I Know, his landmark first album.
Blending country, folk, and pop, Lucy Kaplansky makes every song sound fresh, whether she is singing her own originals, country classics, or pop favorites. Kaplansky’s iconic voice has been featured in film and on television, including in Chevrolet’s iconic “Heartbeat of America” jingle.
Patty Larkin redefines the boundaries of folk-urban pop music with her inventive guitar wizardry and uncompromising lyrics and vocals. Bird in a Cage, her 14th album, puts poems from 10 notable poets to song for a new and haunting collection that pulses with magical lyricism.
