One of the most prolific and innovative rappers of the 21st century.
—Phoenix New Times
Video games and hip hop have been connected for decades. When it comes to marrying the two within music, though, no one does it quite like Mega Ran.
Ran writes songs that are easy to embrace, thanks to his unrelenting charm.
A former middle school teacher, Mega Ran blends education, hip hop, and gaming in amazing new ways, penetrating the farthest reaches of the galaxy with his unique rhyming style and electric performances.
Ran cut his teeth in Philadelphia, moonlighting as an emcee and producer, performing, freestyle rapping, producing, and engineering at a studio. After relocating to Phoenix and competing in the Scribble Jam emcee battle championships (and taking an early exit), Ran started incorporating video games, comic books, and pop culture—all huge factors in his upbringing—into his music, and his popularity soared.
Ran’s music and story have been shared on stages across the world and on television, and four of his albums have charted on the Billboard 200. His musical résumé boasts collaborations with legends such as Del the Funky Homosapien, Murs, Kool Keith, and Young RJ of Slum Village.
Today, Mega Ran is no longer a teacher, but he maintains a rigorous touring and recording schedule, traveling the world to entertain and educate through the gift of rhyme. Tonight, he celebrates the release of his new multi-genre children’s album, Buddy’s Magic Toy Box, by performing it in its entirety. The performance features special guests and an interactive Q&A and storytelling session inspired by Mega Ran’s journey to foster parenting, which inspired the project.
