It’s rare to find someone capable of injecting such life into every single lyric.

Much like the famed French singer Édith Piaf, Madeleine Peyroux spent her teenage years busking on the busy streets of Paris. Like Piaf, Peyroux, who was born in Athens, Georgia, but moved to Paris when she was 13, befriended the city’s street musicians and made its Latin Quarter her first performing stage. Years later, Peyroux would cite Piaf as an influence on her music and record a rendition of the classic “La Vie en Rose,” soulfully capturing the tune’s romanticism and melancholy.
Peyroux’s ninth album, Let’s Walk, is her most assured and courageous work. Featuring 10 personal songs co-written by Peyroux, the album blends jazz, folk, and chamber pop, exploring themes confessional and political. Peyroux’s distinctive voice and deep emotional expression shine throughout. Her thirst for creative exploration is unfading, and her repertoire encompasses traditional acoustic jazz and blues and her own eclectic folk- and pop-leaning originals.
