Performance: Ollin Yoliztli Dance Academy 12:30 p.m. Main Courtyard Sample the regional dance styles of Mexico with Ollin Yoliztli Dance Academy’s (pictured above) exhilarating baile folklórico (folk dancing), accompanied by its mariachi student academy.
Curator Talk: Traditional Culture Is Alive and Well: Mexico’s Regional Music and Instruments 2:30 p.m. Event Room 2 Join Daniel Piper, PhD, MIM’s curator for Latin America, to learn about the vibrant musical diversity throughout the distinct regions of Mexico. In this talk and multimedia presentation, Piper goes beyond Mexico’s familiar popular genres to explore music and instruments tied to regional social dances, ceremonies, and celebrations that keep traditional music alive and relevant in the 21st century.
Performance: La Luz de la Luna 3:15 p.m. Main Courtyard Watch La Luz de la Luna take a raw and intimate approach to such classic styles as ranchera, bolero, and huapango.
