New York–based soul singer-songwriter Morgan James’s voice is her instrument, and through it she can communicate anything. A Juilliard-trained vocalist and Broadway actress with 12 albums under her belt, James has built a devoted global fanbase through relentless touring and genre-bending ambition.

James has a particular taste for inserting herself into men’s spaces, twisting hypermasculine songs to her will and changing their meanings in the process. That feminist lens is brought to the forefront in her most recent project: 2025’s Soul Remains the Same, which transforms the testosterone-soaked ’80s and ’90s radio classics of her youth into poignant, soulful, and deeply personal covers. The album reinterprets tracks from the likes of AC/DC, Stone Temple Pilots, and Pearl Jam with rich horn arrangements, a powerhouse band, and her unmistakable vocals.
