Know Before You Go
Know Before You Go
MIM is committed to providing an inclusive environment and a meaningful experience for everyone. The following accommodations are available to every guest.
General Museum Accommodations
Complimentary wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, and strollers are available at Guest Service.
Trained service animals are welcome at MIM.
Private restrooms are available on both floors of the museum.
Guests may bring food, drinks, or backpacks if needed for medical reasons. Please inform Guest Service when you arrive. We ask that guests step into the main corridor (out of the gallery spaces) to eat or drink.
MIM can provide a private guided tour of the museum upon request. Please let us know at least one week before your visit.
The galleries are usually busiest on weekday mornings due to field trips.
If you need to leave unexpectedly, we are happy to offer same-day re-entry to the museum or reschedule your visit at no additional charge. If you need to leave and cannot return, we will offer a refund.
Audio and Communications
Assistive listening systems are available at Guest Service.
MIM can provide an American Sign Language interpreter upon request with one week’s advance notice before your visit.
We provide headsets that automatically play music at exhibits throughout the galleries. Guests can bring their own headphones if they have a standard headphone jack. Bluetooth and wireless headsets will not work with MIM equipment.
Guests are welcome to bring their own noise-cancelling headphones to support any sensory needs.
Large-print transcripts for all videos with English-language singing and minor narration are available at Guest Service.
Captioning is provided on videos with instructive narration.
Additional Requests
MIM is committed to providing an inclusive environment and a meaningful experience for everyone. Please send your requests to ADA@MIM.org at least one week before your visit.
Museum Spaces
The first floor includes the Orientation Galleries (a great place to start your visit), Artist Gallery, and Mechanical Music Gallery, along with the interactive Experience Galleries. Guests can take the stairs, elevator, or escalator to the Geographic Galleries on the second floor.
The Encore Gallery offers a space where museum guests can play instruments in a quieter, less busy environment than the Experience Gallery. Ask a team member to open the gallery for you.
The Museum Store features softer lighting than the galleries, and music in the store is played at a low volume. MIM offers shopping assistance to all guests. Please call ahead of your visit if you would like to request specific assistance.
Café Allegro and Beats Coffee Bar® offer a variety of food and drink options. Seating is available in both areas and the main courtyard.
The PNC Bank Family Center was designed to be a quiet and private space for all our guests. The space includes a private restroom, nursing room, and some toys and books.
Companion seating, accessibility seating, rear-box elevator access, and assisted listening devices are available in the MIM Music Theater.
