Artist Gallery

Celebrate music’s most influential artists! In every time and place, there are musicians whose art deeply touches the lives of many. MIM’s Artist Gallery highlights these personalities with ever-changing exhibits that span sound, style, and era. See and hear instruments played by icons such as Elvis Presley®, Johnny Cash, Pablo CasalsBuddy Rich“King” Sunny Adé, Clara Rockmore, Maroon 5, and many others from around the world.

MIM curator Colin Pearson and Pablo Casals Museum director José Delannoy talk about legendary cellist Pablo Casals and introduce us to his cello, currently on display in the Artist Gallery at MIM. This exhibit is presented in cooperation with the Pablo Casals Museum and the Musical Arts Corporation of Puerto Rico.

The “First Family of Country Music” and the “Man in Black” have arrived at MIM. The exhibits give guests an overview of their musical careers and historical impact. The trio of A.P., Sara, and Maybelle Carter is widely recognized for helping launch country music’s commercial beginnings, while Johnny Cash bucked music industry norms, singing of America’s marginalized population, and later going on to achieve superstardom.

Maroon 5 is one of the most successful groups in music today, writing hits that combine distinctive vocals with elements of rock, soul, funk, and more. The display features instruments from five band members, including lead singer Adam Levine’s rare Ibanez electric guitar and lead guitarist James Valentine’s Fender Telecaster Deluxe guitar.
