Concert Details

For 50 years, San Francisco’s Kronos Quartet—currently comprising violinists David Harrington and Gabriela Díaz, violist Ayane Kozasa, and cellist Paul Wiancko—has challenged and reimagined what a string quartet can be. Founded when the form was largely centered on long-established Western European traditions, the Kronos Quartet has been at the forefront of revolutionizing the string quartet into a living art form that responds to the people and issues of our time.

In the process, the Kronos Quartet has become one of the most celebrated and influential groups of the era, having performed thousands of concerts worldwide, released more than 70 recordings of extraordinary breadth and creativity, and collaborated with many of the world’s most accomplished composers and performers. The quartet has received more than 40 of the most prestigious awards given to musicians, including three Grammys, the Polar Music Prize, the Avery Fisher Prize, and the Edison Award.

“A spiritual trip through our common humanity—it was universal.”

Globe and Mail

“Kronos Quartet has broken the boundaries of what string quartets do.”
