For more than 50 years, Asleep at the Wheel front man Ray Benson has been traversing the globe as an ambassador of Western swing music, introducing its irresistible sound to generations. Along the way, the band has released more than 40 albums, racked up eight Grammys, and traveled millions of miles on the road. 

Since the band’s beginning in 1970, more than 100 musicians have passed through the Wheel, but Benson remains the front man and the keeper of the group’s vision. Asleep at the Wheel is an important cornerstone of American roots music, and some of its members and audience represent a new generation—a testament to the band’s far-reaching appeal and continuing relevance.
