“Volunteering at MIM has greatly enriched my retirement life, particularly serving as a tour guide to student groups. It gives me joy and satisfaction to see the kids engage and broaden their perspectives about music, cultures, and traditions from around the world.”
— Rob Fletcher
“MIM provides the community with a place to celebrate heritage and gain new perspectives about the world. I smile when a guest shares with me their experience of wonder and surprise as they enjoy the musical instruments and videos. This reminds me that music connects with everyone."
— Julia Griffin
“I consider it a privilege to be an emissary of our museum, give back to the community, meet and interact with our guests, and share why music is the language of the soul!”
— Felecia Clack
“I absolutely love history, and MIM has allowed me to turn that love into real-life experience working in my dream field. I have gotten the opportunity to understand the role that museums play and how they can best serve guests while educating them about different cultures and histories in an engaging and tangible way.”
— Ava Usher
“When we first relocated here from the San Francisco Bay Area, we drove by the building, saw the Musical Instrument Museum sign, and were intrigued. We love music and decided to stop by. Our first visit led to a second visit and membership. We found MIM to be a fascinating, dynamic, and happy place, and we decided that we wanted to be a part of this. The time that we spend volunteering at MIM is totally outweighed by the value and pleasure that we receive.”
— Chuck and Madeleine Jackson
“VTMs have a wealth of knowledge, which they freely share in every corner of the museum. The building is filled with smiling, friendly, inviting folks that give the museum a personality that glows. I am able to talk to children and adults about my favorite subject: music, which reflects the best parts of my career as a former public school elementary music teacher.”
— Jane Chavers
