Grammy-winning Jewish klezmer superstars the Klezmatics return to perform seasonal music from their acclaimed holiday album Happy Joyous Hanukkah, which set lyrics by the late Woody Guthrie to their delightful original compositions. The collection of songs was released in 2006 as Woody Guthrie’s Happy Joyous Hanukkah and includes “Hanuka’s Flame,” “Hanuka Gelt,” and the title track. Happy Joyous Hanukkah is filled with pulse-quickening rhythms and heart-warming melodies.
Formed in New York’s East Village, the Klezmatics led the resurgence of the nearly forgotten klezmer tradition and contemporized it with an irreverent dose of punk rock attitude. Since their inception, they have been one of most visible representations of today’s Yiddish culture. They recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.
