Concert Details

Award-winning alto saxophonist and composer Immanuel Wilkins is one of the most compelling voices in contemporary jazz. He burst onto the scene in 2020 with his critically acclaimed Blue Note debut, Omega. The album was named the best new jazz release by The New York Times and the best debut jazz album by NPR, was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album, and helped Wilkins win the prestigious LetterOne Rising Stars Award.

His sophomore Blue Note album, 2022’s The 7th Hand, topped numerous year-end lists, including Jazzwise, NPR, The New York Times, Financial Times, and JazzTimes; and his 2024 Blue Note album, Blues Blood, was featured in the year-end lists of AllMusic, NPR, and Spin. In 2023, Wilkins was awarded with three DownBeat Critics Poll awards for Alto Saxophonist of the Year, Rising Star Composer of the Year, and Rising Star Group of the Year.

In 2026, Wilkins will release three albums, each recorded live at the Village Vanguard with his quartet. In addition to touring as a leader, Wilkins records and performs with peers and mentors, including Jason Moran, Kenny Barron, Wynton Marsalis, and Joel Ross.

“If Miles Davis had been a generation older and still a talent-spotting genius, he would very likely have hired Immanuel Wilkins.”

Jazzwise

“He is possessed of a round, warm, emotionally powerful tone, informed not only by the jazz tradition but gospel as well.”
