SUMMARY:Jim Messina
DESCRIPTION:Jim Messina is an expert in the fine art of creating hit songs. His legacy spans six decades\, three supergroups\, a vibrant solo career\, and scores of producing and engineering credits. \nMessina was first linked to Buffalo Springfield\, producing and engineering for the band before joining as a bass player. When Buffalo Springfield disbanded in 1968\, Messina and Richie Furay formed Poco\, one of the first and longest-lasting country-rock groups. \nIn 1970\, Messina was asked to work with a then-unknown Kenny Loggins. Over the next seven years\, Loggins and Messina released eight hit records\, charted 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100\, and sold more than 16 million albums. After Loggins and Messina’s partnership dissolved\, Messina embarked on a solo career. \nMessina’s touring band comprises acclaimed musicians who have played with him at various points\, and they perform hits from across Messina’s vaunted career.

SUMMARY:Alan Doyle
DESCRIPTION:There are few artists capable of appealing to music fans of all stripes\, and Alan Doyle is one of them. Doyle is a Canadian musician\, actor\, and author best known as the lead singer of the Celtic-rock band Great Big Sea. The Newfoundland native launched his solo career in 2012\, has written three bestselling books\, and has appeared in and produced various films and television series\, including Robin Hood and Republic of Doyle. \nExpect the unexpected from Welcome Home\, Doyle’s fourth full-length solo studio album and 20th overall. Doyle explores slower songs and lower vocal ranges on this latest album\, but Welcome Home has party tracks aplenty—notably the rollicking\, Celtic\, fiddle-and-accordion–goosed title track.

SUMMARY:Los Lobos
DESCRIPTION:The journey of Los Lobos began in 1973\, when David Hidalgo\, Louie Pérez\, Cesar Rosas\, and Conrad Lozano earned their stripes playing revved-up versions of Mexican folk music in restaurants and at parties. The band evolved in the 1980s as it tapped into the burgeoning punk and college rock scenes in Los Angeles. Los Lobos enjoyed critical success early on\, winning a Grammy for Best Mexican-American Performance for “Anselma” from their 1983 EP . . . And a Time to Dance. Through the years\, they’ve managed to keep things interesting with unexpected side trips—such as an album of Disney songs in 2009—and countless contributions to tribute albums and film soundtracks. \nIn 2023\, Los Lobos celebrated its 50th anniversary—a rare and impressive feat—and the band continues its great legacy. Los Lobos have sold millions of records\, won prestigious awards\, and made fans around the world. But perhaps the group’s most lasting impact will be how well its music embodies the idea of America as a cultural melting pot in which styles such as son jarocho\, norteño\, Tejano\, folk\, country\, doo-wop\, soul\, R&B\, rock ’n’ roll\, and punk all come together to create a new sound greater than the sum of its parts.
