The Legacy Circle is MIM’s planned-giving society, created to honor those who have provided for the museum in their wills, trusts, retirement plans, other planned giving and/or estate plans.
When you give back to MIM through a planned gift, you’re making a lasting investment in our future by ensuring the vitality and permanence of both the museum’s collections and its programs for generations to come. At MIM, planned gifts help highlight aspiring and renowned artists at the MIM Music Theater, bring in more school tours, celebrate global cultures at our Signature Events, preserve instruments and artifacts for our many galleries, and more.
WHAT IS PLANNED GIVING?
Planned giving consists of any major gift that donors make to a charitable organization or nonprofit during their lifetime, which does not take effect until a future date or after their passing. Oftentimes, donors can make larger gifts with planned giving than they could have made solely with their income. Planned gifts can be made in a variety of ways.
- Provision in a Will or Trust
- Retirement Assets
- Charitable Distributions
- Charitable Gift Annuities
- Life Insurance
- Donor-Advised Funds
- Appreciated Stocks and Other Tangible Assets
BENEFITS OF PLANNED GIVING
INFLUENCE AND IMPACT
Donors can provide funds to specific organizations of their choosing, but they typically do not have the opportunity to say exactly how their money is spent. With planned giving, donors direct how funds are used for an organization and can truly create a lasting legacy for the future.
When you become a member of MIM’s Legacy Circle, you become part of the MIM family. We want to recognize you appropriately for your generosity and foresight in helping to advance our mission. Examples include prominent name recognition on our Legacy Circle wall, name recognition in our Annual Report for Legacy Circle members, and invitations to special events.
Donors who provide a planned gift will realize significant tax advantages, including reduction in income and/or estate taxes. Planned giving as part of an overall estate plan can also reduce or eliminate probate expenses.
When you include planned giving as part of your estate plan, it can offer peace of mind and protection for both you and your family from uncertainty around bequests. Besides improving financial security during your lifetime, incorporating planned giving in your estate plan can also provide benefits to your family as well as the charity of your choice.
MIM has a planned-giving option for everyone and our team would be happy to help you select the best method to meet your personal goals.

MIM is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
When I first came to MIM I really fell in love with it and decided to become involved by volunteering as a tour guide. My wife and I have no kids, so we have decided to designate money in our will among three charities close to us, including MIM. I love what MIM does and it is related to the industry I made a living in as a concert promoter for artists including Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, and B. B. King.
As I give tours, it’s amazing to see how much people really love MIM. As much as it’s about music, it’s really a cultural snapshot of the world.
