Holiday Craft: Maracas 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Craft your own maracas and re-create the Puerto Rican holiday tradition of singing aguinaldos (Christmas carols) accompanied by this popular percussion instrument.
Instrument Spotlight: Handbells 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Try your hand at ringing MIM’s set of Schulmerich handbells. Volunteer team members will guide you through the simple steps to making a joyful sound on these beautiful instruments.
Photo Booth 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Have your picture taken with fun musical props at MIM’s custom photo booth and instantly get your own copy to take home.
Flamenco Performance 10:45–11:30 a.m. Enjoy a lively performance of Spanish holiday music through flamenco toque, cante, y baile (guitar playing, song, and dance) with Flamenco Por La Vida.
Face Painting 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Add a burst of holiday cheer to your look! Have your face painted with a custom design by the talented artists of Evolving Through Art.
Holiday-Themed Mini-Tours 11:15 a.m., 12:15, 1:15, and 2:15 p.m. Join MIM’s Junior Museum Guides for a musical trip through the Geographic Galleries with a special focus on seasonal holiday traditions.
Music-Making Activity 11:15 a.m., 12:15, 1:15, and 2:15 p.m. Sing and play seasonally inspired songs in a family-friendly workshop led by MIM’s Junior Museum Guides. Space and instruments are limited.
Student Piano Performance 11:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m. (Saturday only) Drop by the Steinway piano in MIM’s El Río lobby for a performance by piano students from Arizona School for the Arts (ASA). Directed by Dianne Cangelosi, these talented young musicians will play a beautiful array of holiday and winter-themed music.
Student Band Performance 11:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m. (Sunday only) Don’t miss a festive student showcase by the Honey Badger Concert Band of Highland Prep High School, directed by Heather Cummings, featuring seasonal standards like “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Blue Christmas.”
Handbell Choir Performance 12:45–1:30 p.m. For over twenty-five years, Desert Bells International has been sharing the art of English handbell ringing at celebrations throughout Phoenix and beyond. Join this talented handbell choir for a heartwarming performance of their favorite seasonal songs.
Harp and Voice Performance 1:45–2:15 p.m. Come hear a few holiday classics performed by harpist Jocelyn Obermeyer and vocalist Raymond LaFleur.
Klezmer Music Performance 2:45–3:30 p.m. Tune in to the unique musical stylings of Jerusafunk as they perform a selection of klezmer songs, old and new, to celebrate Hanukkah and share traditional Jewish “soul music.”
