Guitarist Chieli Minucci’s contemporary jazz supergroup Special EFX marks its 40^th year of recording and touring in 2022 with the April release of Twenty Twenty 2. The group formed in 1982 as the brainchild of Minucci and percussionist George Jinda. The combination of Minucci’s edgy, melodic, and driving style and Jinda’s sense for temperament and rhythm struck a perfect balance, and a distinctive new and original sound that incorporated heavy percussive world elements fused with smart, energetic, playful, and memorable guitar lines was formed.

Minucci now leads and is the driving force behind the band. He has also recorded and performed with some of pop music’s biggest names—such as Céline Dion, Lou Reed, Lionel Richie, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Bolton, and Marc Anthony—as well as some of jazz’s elite performers, including Jeff Lorber and Kirk Whalum.
