Socks in the Frying Pan

Concert Details

Socks in the Frying Pan comprises two brothers, Shane and Fiachra Hayes as well as Aodán Coyne. This young trad trio from Country Clare blend Irish traditional melodies with an innovative rhythmic and melodic garnish. Having gained a fan base from four years of gigging around the west of Ireland, the group has recently begun branching out with their modern traditional style and energetic approach to music. This, combined with acoustic musical interplay, three-part harmonies, and an obvious love for live performances, compliments the traditional essence of both tune and songs in a fresh and entertaining way.

This past summer, they were invited to play at the Tønder Festival in Denmark, which is one of the most prominent festivals for traditional and modern folk music in Europe. The program is usually composed of international artists from Ireland, Scotland, Canada, United States, England, and Scandinavia. The genres vary from Irish and Scottish folk music to Nordic and Baltic folk music and songs. Among the artists who have performed at the festival are Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Mary Black, Wilco, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, the Chieftains, and Altan.

Next year, they will return to the United States to play at the Kansas City Irish Fest in the summer and the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, for the third year in a row. Socks will then spend October and November on their biggest tour of Switzerland and Germany. The year 2018 will continue with more announcements as they embark on their biggest performing arts center tour yet in the United States, taking in Florida, Las Vegas, Arizona, and their first tour of Alaska.

Outstanding music, great album and most definitely in this year’s top five, no mean achievement considering what a great year this has been for music.

Their sound flows in magnetic, energetic waves, so does their banter on stage.
