Makana is an internationally acclaimed slack-key guitarist, singer, and composer and one of Hawaii’s cultural ambassadors. He has been recognized as one of the top guitarists in the United States by Guitar Player and honored in Hawaii with the prestigious Kī-Hō‘alu Foundation Legacy Award.

Virtuosic and versatile, Makana’s music defies description. The guitarist uses alternate tunings to create a massive, resonant, symphonic sound without using loop pedals or gimmicks. His live performances are an exhilarating ride through the breadth of slack-key music, folk, rock, bluegrass, and jazz. His distinctly original songs are infused with the spirit of Hawaii and his own brand of slack-rock.

In 2020, Makana released A Hawaiʻi Interlude, pioneering new, inspiring soundscapes in Hawaiian music. This album weaves listeners directly into the fabric of Hawaii’s inclusive culture.
