Performance: Phoenix Gharana School of Indian Arts 10:15 a.m., Sunday North El Río Discover the music of northern India as an energetic ensemble of local students sings unique vocal arrangements and traditional tunes of classical Hindustani music.
Curator Talk: Devotional and Folk: Highlight of Indian Musical Instruments 11:30 a.m. Event Room 2 Join Eddie Chia-Hao Hsu, curator for Asia and Oceania, for a discussion about the rich and diverse devotional and folk music traditions of India, highlighting instruments from MIM’s collection.
Performance: Nritya Shaily School of Kathak 12:30 p.m., Saturday North El Río See Shaily Bhandri and her students tell stories through kathak, a classical northern Indian dance form featuring exciting footwork, pirouettes, rhythmic patterns, and ghungroo ankle bells.
Performance: Vasumathi Narayan 12:30 p.m., Sunday North El Río Hear the distinctly southern Indian melodies of Carnatic music played on the vīṇā, one of the genre’s most popular instruments, by local vīṇā musician Vasumathi Narayan and accompanists.
Dance Workshop: Sampradaya Dance of India 1:30 p.m. Event Room 2 Take part in this special classical Indian dance workshop led by Sampradaya Dance of India.
Performance: Dhivyadhwani School of Music 2:15 p.m. North El Río See students from Dhivyadhwani School of Music perform classical Indian pieces under the direction of music director Chithra Vaidyanathan.
Performance: Sampradaya Dance of India 3:15 p.m. North El Río Witness graceful bharata-nātyam dance routines from southern India performed by Sampradaya Dance of India students under the direction of internationally renowned artist Nita Mallya.
