Mr. Lloyd is the rare jazz artist whose every appearance qualifies as an event.
—New York Times
Charles Lloyd is an international treasure.
A remarkable player, [Gerald Clayton] seems to understand what our ear wants—blooming harmony, melodic improvisations, firm landings—and how to deliver it.
As part of MIM’s 10th Anniversary in 2020, MIM’s Music Theater will present the Global Masters Series, which celebrates the creativity and musicianship of artists at the pinnacle of their craft. Each performance brings a unique perspective to the question of why music matters, helping us understand the deep connections we all have to music.
Charles Lloyd is a vital pillar of living jazz saxophone legends. The depth of his expression reflects a lifetime of experience. Lloyd has a legendary history in the music world and could certainly be in a position to slow down and rest on his laurels. But looking back has never been of great interest to this tender warrior; “Go forward,” is his motto, as he keeps shifting to a higher, well calibrated gear. In 2015, he became a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.
Gerald Clayton searches for honest expression in every note he plays. The four-time Grammy-nominated pianist/composer is a celebration of the inherent differences in musical perspectives that promote true artistic synergy. Inclusive sensibilities have allowed him to perform and record with such distinguished artists as Diana Krall, Roy Hargrove, Dianne Reeves, and Charles Lloyd.
