Being mediocre was never an option for Amanda Shires, drafted at 15 into the ranks of western swing legends the Texas Playboys—playing fiddle no less, just like late bandleader Bob Wills.
With a 20-plus year relationship with the violin (‘My true freest expression’), years of collaborations and solo pursuits alike and a recently-minted poetry MFA from The University of the South in her toolbox, Shires knows what she’s doing.
Acclaimed singer/songwriter/violinist Amanda Shires is renowned for her carefully crafted, evocative songs. Shires began her career as a teenager playing fiddle with the legendary Texas Playboys. Since then, she’s toured and recorded with John Prine, Billy Joe Shaver, Todd Snider, Justin Townes Earle, Shovels & Rope, and her husband, Jason Isbell.
Shires, along with Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby, is also currently part of the new country supergroup the Highwomen.
