(Please note: These policies apply to Guided Group Tours. They do not apply to School Group Tours.)
Guided tours are free with admission. However, all groups must book in advance. Here, you’ll find out how to book a tour, read information about the tours, and learn how to prepare for your visit.
ABOUT GROUP TOURS
Over five thousand musical instruments and objects are displayed in five major Geographical Galleries. Guideports (wireless headsets) and high-resolution video screens allow guests to see the instruments, hear their sounds, and observe them being played in their original settings.
To ensure the best experience, please read the following list of tour policies and guidelines and share them with your group before you arrive.
Guided tours last approximately one hour and are available for groups ranging in size from 10 to 120. Tours offer an overview of the world’s music, focusing on cultures in each geographical region of the globe. Guided tours may also be arranged for groups that are part of an educational institution and include mostly children, but that come during our summer season, which runs from June 1 to August 15.
Tours are available year-round, seven days a week. Tours begin at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, and on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
To book a tour for your group, please fill out the Group Tour Request Form. The coordinator will follow up with you to finalize a date and time immediately and will again contact you shortly before your tour date for confirmation.
Guided tours are free with the cost of admission. Regular admission is $18, $14 for teens (ages 13-19), $10 for children (ages 4–12), and children 3 and under are free.
A nonrefundable deposit of $40 is due within ten days of confirming the reservation. If this deposit is not received, the reservation will be canceled. The balance of the fee is due on the day of the tour. MIM accepts all major credit cards, checks, and cash.
Groups enter through the museum’s main entrance and are greeted by one or more tour guides. If your group is large, it may be broken into smaller subgroups of twenty people. Tour bus parking is available on the north side of the museum. MIM meets all ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) requirements for accessibility. Please notify us at least two weeks before your tour for any special-needs requests.
All guests touring the museum are issued a Guideport headset, which allows them to experience the audio and video recordings that accompany nearly every exhibit. The cost of the Guideport headset is included in the admission fee.
Because of MIM’s state-of-the-art technology and unique hands-on opportunity to play instruments in the Experience Gallery, groups can easily take self-guided tours.
Self-guided tours are entirely self-directed. Self-guided groups are strongly recommended to make advanced reservations or pay a deposit.
Self-guided tours, including time in the Experience Gallery, last approximately ninety minutes.

If you must cancel a tour, please e-mail grouptours@MIM.org or call 480.245.6919. All changes or cancellations must be made two weeks or more before the tour date.
The $40 deposit is nonrefundable but can be applied toward another visit. Please submit another request if you are interested in rescheduling your visit. MIM reserves the right to cancel or reschedule your group at any time.
Thank you for your careful consideration of these policies. We hope you and your group enjoy your visit to MIM!
