PHOENIX (June 3, 2014) − Bring home the experience of the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in Phoenix with “MIM: A Journey Through the Musical Instrument Museum.” Featuring more than 150 gorgeous photographs across 96 pages, this catalog is a beautiful encapsulation of the ever-changing nature of the world’s only global musical instrument museum.
The new book, the third produced by the museum, provides an overview of MIM’s exhibits and the nearly 6,000 objects on display, vividly capturing the feel of a museum visit with photographs of galleries and their individual instruments.
“MIM has shared its vision of celebrating the diversity of music and musical instruments from every country in the world with nearly 1 million guests, including more than 109,000 school children, since opening in 2010,” said April Salomon, acting director of MIM. “This catalog enables MIM guests to take the collective experience of the museum home with them and share it with friends and family.”
A major highlight will be the opportunity for readers to explore MIM’s Geographical Galleries in detail. Thought-provoking descriptions and page-dominating photographs of exhibits recreate the experience of walking through MIM’s global galleries and taking in the music of the world.
Sections for MIM’s Mechanical, Artist and Experience Galleries contribute to the sensation of being at MIM, and features such as the story of MIM’s founding will offer readers a deeper understanding of MIM’s mission.
MIM’s second catalog, “MIM: Highlights from the Musical Instrument Museum,” was released in 2012 and offers unique insights into MIM’s collection of instruments, allowing visitors to continue learning after a visit to the museum. The two catalogs complement each other and together capture the full essence of MIM. The museum’s first catalog, “Sanza: African Thumb Pianos from the Collections of F. & F. Boulanger-Bouhière, the Royal Museum for Central Africa and MIM” was also produced in 2012 and its publication coincided with a special exhibition of the same name housed in the Target Gallery.
“MIM: A Journey Through the Musical Instrument Museum” is available in the Museum Store for a retail price of $20. The catalog can also be purchased through the MIM Online Store or by calling 480.478.6002.
