From January to May, a multitude of notable artists will visit MIM including singer-songwriters such as Lucinda Williams (January 11), Marc Cohn (January 20), Jimmy Webb (February 1), and Colin Hay (April 2). Guitar fans won’t want to miss the lineup of influential strummers, including José Feliciano (January 18), Jorma Kaukonen (January 26), and Paul Galbraith (March 5). Jazz greats Joe Lovano and Us Five, with Esperanza Spalding (February 2), and Doc Severinsen & the San Miguel Five (May 1) will also make appearances. Global stars including Israel’s David Broza (February 17 and 18) and Ireland’s Altan (March 17) also join the selection. The complete schedule is available online at MIM.org.
For the spring 2013 series, MIM sought to bring a host of popular singer-songwriters and guitarists as well as world-renowned classical and jazz groups to the Valley. The wide range of genres and musicians covered this season supports the museum’s mission to celebrate the world’s diverse musical cultures and foster global understanding by offering guests a one-of-kind experience in the intimate MIM Music Theater.
“MIM is pleased to announce this series, which brings Grammy-winning acts like the Kronos Quartet (January 14 and 15) back to the MIM Music Theater along with global artists such as Vusi Mahlasela (February 4) and the Gryphon Trio (February 13),” said Lowell Pickett, artistic director of the MIM Music Theater. “From Hawaii’s George Kahumoku Jr. (February 22) on the slack-key guitar to banjoist Béla Fleck (May 15), MIM is showcasing a range of musical talent rarely seen in a locale of this quality.”
MIM is constantly evolving and new concerts will continue to be added throughout the winter/spring series. Check MIM.org often for information about new concerts joining the listing. The winter/spring series is sponsored in part by Sanderson Ford and Sanderson Lincoln.
