MIM Music Theater Announces Fall 2012 Concert Season

New Theater Scheduling Model Brings Big Names, World Acts, and Instrument Virtuosos to MIM

PHOENIX (Aug. 6, 2012) The MIM Music Theater invites music lovers to “Listen to the World” this fall with more than 40 dynamic live performances. The intimate, acoustically superb venue in north Phoenix has announced its fall schedule, which spans the world with artists from Spain, Africa, Peru, Brazil, India, Mexico, and Cuba, as well as jazz masters, folk and pop icons, and rising stars.

From September to December, this season will be full of exciting performances by established and emerging artists, including Arturo Sandoval (September 14), Plena Libre (September 26), Peter Asher (October 5 and 6), Septeto Nacional de Ignacio Piñeiro (October 8), Acoustic Africa with Dobet Gnahoré (October 14), Branford Marsalis (November 13), Judy Collins (November 16), Manhattan Transfer (November 29 and 30), and the return of Preservation Hall Jazz Band for a rousing holiday concert (December 16). The complete schedule is available online at theMIM.org.

For the upcoming seasons, the MIM Music Theater realigned performance scheduling to take advantage of artist routing and touring schedules and to increase the quality and quantity of concerts. This approach will support the museum’s mission to host the greatest artists in the world in the rare intimacy of the MIM Music Theater. Check theMIM.org often for new concerts being added on an ongoing basis throughout the season, and watch for the announcement of the spring season in late fall.

“As a result of this new model, MIM will be featuring even more world-class performance experiences,” said Lowell Pickett, artistic director of the MIM Music Theater. “From Norwegian indie singer-songwriter Sondre Lerche and Hawaiian ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro to Cuban trumpet legend Arturo Sandoval and the Grammy-winning Pacifica Quartet, MIM is showcasing a range and depth of musical talent that can rarely be found in a venue of this intimacy and quality. It’s our intention to continue to make the MIM Music Theater a prominent part of the Valley’s growing performing arts stature.”

The fall series is sponsored in part by Sanderson Ford and Sanderson Lincoln. Sponsorship support is also provided by Bank of America.

Tickets for the fall season go on sale to the public on August 8. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 480.478.6000 or visit the MIM Ticket Office in person or online at theMIM.org. The MIM Music Theater is located at the Musical Instrument Museum, 4725 E. Mayo Boulevard in Phoenix (corner of Tatum and Mayo Boulevards, just south of Loop 101).
