Kim Komando Joins President’s Cabinet at MIM

Nationally Syndicated Talk Show Host Appointed to Musical Instrument Museum’s President’s Cabine

PHOENIX (Oct. 30, 2012) The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kimberly A. Komando to its President’s Cabinet. The President’s Cabinet is comprised of leaders in the Valley who advise Dr. Bill DeWalt, MIM’s founding president and director, and serve as ambassadors within the greater community.

Komando is currently the chairwoman and chief financial officer of WestStar Multimedia Entertainment, Inc., the host of “The Kim Komando Show,” and the chairwoman of the Kim Komando Charitable Trust. “The Kim Komando Show” is broadcast on more than 470 stations in the United States making it the largest syndicated weekend-talk-radio show in the nation. Her other radio show, “Digital Minute,” airs Monday through Friday during drive time on nearly 400 radio stations. Komando has published 10 books about life in the digital age and her Komando Digital News Network distributes 9.7 million subscription-based digital newsletters each week. Her syndicated newspaper column is published in more than 100 newspapers, including USA Today.

“Kim has built a media powerhouse driven by her passion for all things digital and she has been extraordinarily successful both as a media personality and a businesswoman,” said DeWalt. “We are excited for Kim to bring her expertise and enthusiasm to MIM’s extended team and we know she will be an enormous contributor of ideas and direction as part of the President’s Cabinet.”

A pioneer in marketing and training for home computers, Komando received the Gracie Award for outstanding radio program host from Alliance for Women in the Media Foundation and was voted “Woman of the Year” by Talkers Magazine. In 2009, she was a featured speaker at Fortune magazine’s Most Powerful Women Summit.
“I am thrilled to join the President’s Cabinet and I look forward to working to further MIM’s mission,” said Komando. “MIM is unique in providing a beautiful space dedicated to showcasing musical instruments from all over the world and incorporating technology so each visitor can have an individualized, interactive experience.”

Komando also agreed to be the presenting sponsor of a holiday fundraiser at MIM that will feature a “world” look at music from and about the holiday season. The evening will benefit MIM’s education programs and feature music by producer/guitarist Marty Ashby with special guests including violinist Aaron Weinstein, singer Dennis Rowland, and German harmonica and vibes master Hendrik Meurkens. The event will also introduce the Valley to the extraordinarily talented young Georgian-born jazz pianist Beka Gochiashvili.

Komando joins current cabinet members John D’Addario Jr., president of the D’Addario Music Foundation; David P. Falck, executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation and Arizona Public Service (APS) Company; Matthew P. Feeney, partner at Snell & Wilmer; Dr. Jeanne L. Herberger, Herberger Foundation trustee; Ronald L. Jones, retired chairman, CEO and president of Sealy, Inc., and founder of The Ron and Linda Jones Family Foundation; James A. Pupillo, managing director and partner at HighTower Advisors; and Haldun Tashman, chairman and founding board member of Turkish Philanthropy Funds.
