TripAdvisor recently awarded both the Musical Instrument Museum and its café Certificates of Excellence for 2013. This is the third year in a row that the museum has received this award.
Edwin Outwater, music director of Ontario’s Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, recently toured MIM and had this to say about his visit:
“It may sound like hyperbole, but I can honestly say that my afternoon at MIM was one of the most fascinating and inspiring experiences I’ve ever had in a museum. Beyond the wonderful collection and engaging interface for visitors, I left the building inspired by the vast and varied musical languages of our world, and the central role music plays in communication and expression in every culture. It made me proud to be a musician, and aware of the essential role I and other musicians play in society.”
Several exciting new shows have just been added to the MIM Music Theater summer concert series. The young musicians of La Orquesta de Instrumentos Reciclados (The Recycled Orchestra) from Cateura, Paraguay, will play their instruments built from recycled materials on Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10. These must-see concerts will mark the group’s North American debut. Also playing the MIM Music Theater stage will be Celtic group RUNA on Thursday, July 25, and jazz singer-songwriter and guitarist Madeleine Peyroux on Sunday, August 4. Tickets for these new shows will go on sale to Circle of Friends donors at noon on Tuesday, June 11, and to the public at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13.
