MIM honors musician’s birthday

Join MIM on Saturday, October 8, for our second annual celebration of the legendary John Lennon. The event promises activities commemorating the ex-Beatle’s legacy of peace and love, all on the day before what would have been Lennon’s seventy-sixth birthday.

Dr. Richard Walter, MIM’s curator for United States / Canada, will give a Curator Talk about the history and desirability of some of Lennon’s iconic instruments and related memorabilia, including the Steinway upright piano on display in MIM’s Artist Gallery.

At 11:00 a.m., watch a screening of A Hard Day’s Night, one of the hit musical comedies the Beatles filmed during the height of Beatlemania. You can also make an origami piano and test how much you know about Lennon in our team MIMQuiz.

Café Allegro will cook up a witty spin on traditional favorites from the United Kingdom, such as “The Quarry Men” Shepherd’s Pie or Liverpool Roast Beef with “Seven-Inch Vinyl” Yorkshire Pudding and “Soft Rock” Gravy.

Visit the Museum Store for John Lennon CDs, books, and T-shirts in several styles—even an adorable onesie for the youngest of Lennon fans. The Museum Store also features music and gifts commemorating the Beatles—from Yellow Submarine lunch boxes and magnets to Abbey Road serving trays and jigsaw puzzles.

Activities are included with paid museum admission and free for members.
