As MIM’s creative director, Katie Runyan is responsible for the marketing strategy and creative content that communicates the value and richness of the MIM experience to museum guests and the public. She currently leads a team of marketing professionals, graphic designers, multimedia producers, and digital archivists.
In August 2011, Runyan joined MIM as an exhibit designer. From 2011 to 2017, she supervised the development of special exhibitions at the museum such as Stradivarius: Origins and Legacy of the Greatest Violin Maker and Ancient Musical Treasures from Central China: Harmony of the Ancients from the Henan Museum; she also supervised key construction projects, including the build-out of the Encore Gallery and the parking lot expansion.
Runyan received her bachelor of arts degree in political science and French from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Subsequently, she studied design at the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy, and completed her master’s degree in interior design at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. Prior to joining MIM, she served as project manager at high-end design firms and worked at the Heard Museum as part of its design department.
