Craft: Pellet Drum and Paper Lantern 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. South El Río Celebrate the Lunar New Year by making your very own paper lanterns and pellet drums, then see if you can find the pellet drum on display in MIM’s China exhibit!

Curator Talk: Ancient Traditions to the Present: Discovering Chinese Musical Legacy 10:30–11:00 a.m. Event Room 2 Learn the intricacies of China’s musical traditions and how they have influenced modern-day society. Join MIM’s curator for Asia and Oceania, Eddie Chia-Hao Hsu, to dive deeper into the stories behind the instruments in the new China: Ancient Traditions exhibit and how they relate to the vibrant Chinese music of the present day.
Performance: Hong Wang 11:30 a.m.–noon North El Río Enjoy a performance from internationally renowned Chinese multi-instrumentalist Hong Wang.
Performance: Traditional Chinese Dragon Dance 12:30–1:00 p.m. Main Courtyard Experience a 33-foot-long dragon that comes alive with the West Point High School Chinese Dragon Dance Team.
Pop-Up Performance: Chinese Dizi and Xiao Bamboo Flutes 1:00–1:15 p.m. Central El Río Listen to the sounds of the dizi and xiao flutes with a brief performance from MIM’s curator for Asia and Oceania, Eddie Chia-Hao Hsu.
Performance: Duo Chinoiserie 1:30–2:00 p.m. North El Río Experience the beauty of Chinese classical and folk music from guzheng virtuoso Jing Xia and classical guitarist Bin Hu.
Drop-In Workshop: Calligraphy 2:30–3:00 p.m. Event Room 2 Discover the art of Chinese calligraphy with Miranda Wong.
Performance: Lion Dance 3:30–3:45 p.m. North El Río Be transported to China with an energetic performance from the 9 Dragons Lion Dance Athletic Association.
